SHIELDS UP!
DHS Advisory on Recent Cyber Threats

Author: Ryan

Date: March 7, 2022
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a “Shields-Up” advisory stating that the attack on Ukraine poses a 24/7 threat to the U.S. homeland. DHS in consultation with their partners is monitoring the threat closely and will respond to requests for assistance, in the event an entity has fallen victim to an attack. The NCSS maintains a 24/7 Automated Information Sharing (AIS) portal to report active cyber-attacks to DHS. Additionally, we can assist in helping your organization report an event. Today we live in a highly connected world and one disruption can easily cascade into a larger impact throughout the supply chain. Therefore, it is critical we all stay laser-focused on resilience. DHS recommends all organizations – regardless of size – adopt a heightened posture. Measures to prepare include:
  • Validate all remote access privileges use two-factor authentication
  • Ensure measures are in place to quickly assess any unexpected or unusual network behavior
  • Ensure that the organization is prepared to respond if an intrusion occurs
  • Conduct a table top exercise to ensure the organization is prepared to respond
  • Test backup procedures to ensure critical data can be rapidly restored
